How It's Made
Burned using the Yakisugi technique, the cedar takes on a deep black surface that reveals the grain beneath its finish.
Materials
Cedar, steel base
Care & Use
Our preferred method of dusting is to use a tack cloth or feather duster. While the surface isn't exceptionally delicate, fibers can occasionally catch on the irregularities found on the object's surface. For non-food safe objects, applying a furniture polish of your choice will maintain the object's original sheen. For food safe pieces, a beeswax and oil mixture found online or at your local hardware store is ideal for replenishing the surface. When washing is required, use a gentle cleanser and a soft touch while avoiding abrasives. Similarly to how one would maintain a butcher block or wood cutting board: wash gently, do not soak and apply a food safe oil/wax commensurate with your usage. Enjoy!
Highlights
- Multiple branches rise from a single, deeply charred form, creating a composition of contrasting heights, angles, and negative space.
- Carefully placed openings allow flowers to emerge throughout the structure, turning the vessel into a living composition.
- Grounded by a simple steel base, the piece balances organic irregularity with deliberate structure.
